Deke, the 'optimate' one is what we use on the race bikes [an optimate 3 actually], will charge ANY type of battery, wet/dry/gel , and it can sometimes even get batteries back from the dead so to speak,

you could probably pick up an older model 3 , or maybe even still get a 2, for 15 - 25£ if you hit lucky.

I have a £5 jobbie for charging batteries for lamping. Has charged batteries hundreds of times and I've never had a problem.

Doesn't owe me anything.

Thanks guys .......I'll let you know the outcome when I've been back to get the maker's name.

Patch I'm going to order a £5 jobbie .

I found having a spare one of those batts useful on  my car .  Once when replacing the car batt and when replacing the starter motor I hooked it across the battery to save losing the radio code (£10 at Ford)
