This is some politicians answer to "how do I charge an EV if I have to park my car on the street away from my house"  Well every lamp post has a mains supply so what's the problem?

Probably the same ones planning a bridge over the Irish Sea between NI and Scotland.

a lot of areas, each column has its own DNO feed direct off the main supply, so probably could easily get 16a... wether the substation can cope with each street light having a 16a car atached is another thing

Many years ago I posted a pic on here of the new cable the DNOs are using for street lighting.  Cannot recall if it was 4mm or not but it was tiny. Live was solid Ali with a bit of tinsel for the rest. DNO jointer said the biggest issue with it was that you could cut cleaned through it with a Grafter ( northern term for a Clay Tool). Smaller diameter than your little finger
