Hi,

Can somebody tell me if it is legal for electricians to work in ATEX areas e.g. Zones 20,21,22 with no competence training such as the CompEx 05&06?

Thanks.

Yes, under specific circumstances. What are you trying/wanting to do?

I'm not trying to do anything. However our site has Atex areas and I need to ascertain whether the company should LEGALLY be paying/providing training.

As Lurch says there is no legal requirement that all people working within a certain area are fully trained, they do however need to be appropriately supervised.

It is however, a companies duty to maintain training skills to ensure their staff are trained to do the work requested.

Ask your insurance company if they will cover work by non COMPEX trained operatives?

Ask the company how they will prove that the persons doing the work are competent without the COMPEX?
