sorry for the delay, been awaybut as Mr Apache so rightly points out,

I would deffo NOT export the PME,

as the reasons I think have clearly been stated many times in the links.

back to your situation tho,

are you saying this cable has NO mechanical protection outside?or has the armour also been used as an earth?

15m away, extraneous parts or not I would argue that its is simply TOO far from the equipotential zone to be permitted to be classed as the same installation and not as a submain, domestic purposes only,

IMHO commercial/industrial would be treated in a totally different manner, due to the more rigorous circumstances involved.
No this had already been done by the people who ever wired the house from new, i would say the lenth of cable is 15 meter but the actual garage is about 3 meter from the house.

I am re wiring the garage for napit purpose only as im quiet at the moment so im going to use it or was going to use it as my installation to be assesed on.

My worries are that i may be pulled due to the exported earth and dont realy want to give them any problems to pull me up on if you no what i mean.

Might haave to do a job elsewere.

Or do you think i will be fine as i havnt installed the cable to the garage.

Yes there is no earthing on the armours they have run a 3 core swa and used one of the cores as the earth connected from main cu in the house to the cu in the garage.

Interesting reading this as I'm doing exactly the same. cu in the garage hasn't been changed, distance from the house is about 5-6m wired in swa. In the cu in the garage there is an earth from one of the cores of the swa and also an earth from the armour. I didn't fit this but it's the way I was told to so now I'm totally confused!!

From reading up on the links tho...I'd say (as there are water pipes in the garage) I need to run 16mm earth from an earth rod and 10mm from the water pipes. And have bo earth from either the armour or 1 of the cores connected. Am I right as that makes ense to me?!

If you put a rod in and disconnect earth from SWA you should be fine. Think you are right - needing to bond the water pipes.

Isn't 16mm fairly meaty stuff if it's only going to take possible fault from a garage?

Bonding is in 10mm for possible fault current from neighbours faults (PME) so needs to be meaty. Where is all this electricity going to come from if garage isolated?

I think :|

10mm earth is fine, as it will be a TT install. if the word "bo" above should read "no", and you rod the garage, that`ll be ok, as Apache points out below.....

Would be correct for PME - overkill on TT.

I think Apache is retraining as a vet, to supplement his income as an electrician.

Kudos to Apache. You learn fast mate. :)

Yeah was meant to say no! Glad you could decode it!

Vet and electrician...could give some hair raising experiences.

I've got 16mm and 10mm here so I'll go with 10mm for both then.

Cheers for your help both. No doubt this won't be the last time I'll be doing this!!
