I have been asked to quote for a consumer unit change. The supply to the fuseboard is 10mm T&E. When is the best method to extend the T&E tails, as they are not like normal tales that can be extended outside of the consumer unit in a double pole henley block....

many thanks

Why do you need to extend them?

Assuming the new CU is going where the old one is, just choose one with the main switch at the left and you won't need to extend them.

So u recommend to just extend the circuits instead, rather than the tails....

The T&E 10mm should then reach..

Thanks Dave, Just looking at the MK range now... unless you can recommend another brand that would work, as i normally stick with Wylex when it comes to small units.

are you saying that these isolators are likely to contain asbestos blocks as insulators, as i have not found them in these small types before....

I have not as of yet looked inside to see what size fuse is inside....

Not blocks, but if they have a 3036 fuse inside then they will more than likely also have asbestos flash pads, one in the receiver and the other under the fuse wire on the holder.... In effect sandwiching the fuse wire

Hi Matt,

As you know, we have been in contact by PM and by e-mail. I hadn't realised you had started this topic on the Forum.

I can do you a 6-mod / 4-way IP65 board, with Main Switch, 2 x 32A Compact RCBOs, 1 x 6A Compact RCBO and busbars, for £61.67, inc postage + VAT.

The CU is just 163 wide x 215 high and would fit neatly where the old one is, without needing to extend any wiring.

I have everything in stock.

PLEASE NOTE I AM ON HOLIDAY FRIDAY 7th FEB UNTIL SATURDAY 15th FEB 2014.

HI Matt

Not sure what's happening with the uploads, but I think they should now show.

the client is not ready to have the work done just yet, but will contact you to purchase the consumer unit when the time comes.
