wow, just got back from pricing up a job that took 2hours, couldn't get away from the guy!!!

What we have is 2blocks of flats with 12flats in each. each block has its own mains room. Theres a block of garages which the customer wants power to his. The commitee who look after the grounds costs aren't keen.

His idea was to come off a bin store which is next to his garage, that has a small DB in it. So from there to a meter and to a db in his garage. Good idea but problem is as follows.

Bin store DB has a 5amp lighting circuit, a 20amp radial to one socket, and an unknown 20amp circuit. The board is proffessionally fed with a 1.5 2core SWA!!!! nice!! Investigate further into mains room, swa is spured of a radial socket circuit (not fused) then 2.5 radial socket circuit is on a 30amp re-wireable, but theres more, its got 2 fuse wires in the fuse.

Before I can even think about using a way in the binstore DB the supply needs sorting. So i need to give it a good slateing with regs to pursuade the commitee it is totally dangerous. (specs? ) Then this poor man can have power to his garage.

Also, if I upgrade the supply to this DB, do i need to test the outgoing circuits?

By 'sort the bin store DB', do you mean just fuse it at the feed end or replace the SWA as well? If the latter then why not just ignore the bin store and run a new feed direct to the garage from inside somewhere?

I read it that the garage and bin store are back to back with just a single wall separating them, but you don't mention of how far away the mains room is from the bin store. Is this a long or short run? crossing a path or driveway?
