Hi looking at installing out side socket
My consumer has no Rcd , so would need an Rcd ,,
But can we wire spur off double socket thats on ring
Using 3core nyyj cable and then fit double external socket with integrated RCD
OR do I need to fit an RCD to the cable before it goes out side ??
Thanks

if the cable is installed where it needs RCD protection then itll need to be before. if the cable doesnt need RCD protection then RCD socket will be fine

Thanks
the cable will be running on external wall for about 3 /4mt to the external socket
Does 3/4mt cable on external wall require an Rcd
Thanks any help appreciated

How ever the cable runs to the outside socket it must be rcd protected on the socket at least under regs as its a special location outside
Thanks , was maybe wrongly informed that consumer unit wasn’t RCD protected.
See pic that looks like an RCD to me !!
So am I good to just spur an outside socket , or is there any thing that’s required or even if not good practice to be on the safe side .

Being external doesn't make it a special location. Provided the cable is run in such a manner it doesn't need additional rcd protection then providing it just at the socket outlet is fine.

Yes it does. You don't have the equipment to check it functions correctly but push the test button to ensure it trips.

You have an rcd I would. Ask. An electrician to test it with a rcd tester for checking functionality but if the rcd functions fully then no need for an rcd outdoor socket as it is covered by consumer unit already
