alright lads

tomorrow i will be mounting a inline fan in a roof space, its slightly larger and louder than a normal inline fan, it will extract 180m3 an hour i believe.

any tips on how to mount it to keep noise to a minimum? open to ideas.

cheers

Wozz , if the loft doesnt have insulation then the addition of this will be necessary to cut down on the noise from the fan motor and extraction noise....apart from this then try to choose a location for it over the least used part of the property.

a1spark.

cheers for the replies, they have insulation which is good, i was going to mount it over the bathroom as the rest of the room are bedrooms. Not sure if there is much more i can do when it comes to sound?

I think vibration may be the biggest problem on flimsy modern trusses.

I was going to screw a bit of 4.1 across a few of them to dissipate the vibration but not sure if this will make it worse.

I try a piece of rubber under the fan i have some 11kV matting outside so could use some of that.

You can buy some rubber feet that have a hole through the center, this cuts down on the vibration which reduces the common noise caused by vibration on plasterboard ceilings.

Then you will need to make sure there is enough insulation which complies with the noice reduction regulations.

How about some rubber tap washers also between the fan & the surface?

I use them for levelling out uneven fixing on walls..

but if you made a sandwich arrangment...

screw through cup washer, rubber tap washer, fan body, another tap rubber washer then the fixing surface...

so the fan body mountings will be sandwiched between rubber fixings?

Dunno if it would work..

I have never tried it...

but I was just thinking of options?

you will just have to try your best...

but the fact is in the still of night if the fan is in use..

its gonna be humming away.. :(

I waz just writing that sort of idea out and you snuck in with a PUSH-SHOVEY!!! :( :_| :_| :p

You could try self adhesive foam tape between the fan and ceiling... or even a nice wodge of silicon sealant.

didnt fit the fan as it turned up and was the wrong one (first order from electric fix) and it turns out there was a mis print in the catalogue!!!!

i could well be talking a load of crap but could you hang it in some way to prevent vibration all together? jack chain or something?
