Special Location has made some good points and providing your lighting circuit is 6A and not 10A, and you want to keep your quote keen, then source a fan which states a FCU is not required, like from Greenwood Airvac.Factual :-

Or Vent-Axia, depending on what model, this is the Silhouette.

How much do you pay for them and how noisy/quiet are they compared to say a VA or Manrose?

Also , anyone used one of them new VA yet, the Silent I think it's called....? Any views on it?

Well Manrose are dirt cheap, Greenwood are up with Vent Axia in terms build quality imo, but you can get a better discount on them.

I was in B&Q last year and spotted a Greenwood fan that was

A few further comments and observations:-

I would like to think that most regulars of this good forum are aware that I am by no means a quote a reg follow blindly person..

But I do like to try and give regs quotes or other applicable references that may help others make wise decisions..

All jobs HAVE to be INDIVIDUALLY assessed on their merits.

This thread is a classic example how one persons wording can possibly be slightly misread or interpreted in a non intentional way

I think this Regulation 537.2 Isolation & 537.3 Switching off for mechanical maintenance covers the requirements in one way or another.
To my mind 537.2 refers to isolation of circuits - so in domestics an MCB is OK

537.3 is switching off for mechanical maintenance - thinking more in terms of lathes, pillar drills or factory type ventilation fans. Once again I can't get excited by using the MCB as an isolation - it's very different to industrial and commercial where it may be imperative to maintain supplies.

In domestic fans the only maintenance I have ever carried out on a fan is to fish out bits of 2 day old cabbage from the blades after a poor old dears pressure cooker exploded.

By the way Binky - did I ever thank you for passing that job on to me!
