I came across Bullet crimps the other day, are these an alternative to ferrules? or are they for something completely different

IF these are what I think they are, remembering different people call different things by different names.

Bullets are available in male & female and are just like spade connectors.

Often used on automotive applications.

Always put the female on the "live" side.

Not keen on them personally for mains voltage.

They are available in 3, 4, 5 & 6mm diameter bullets, in red, blue & yellow sizes from various suppliers, not all sizes are available everywhere.

There may even be some other intermediate sizes.

Are these the sort of thing you are on about because these are what I call bullet connectors.

As Sidey sez , they're bullet shaped , insulated male/female connectors mostly used on low voltage in my experience.

I used red bullet connectors on Sunday when I took my exhaust off to weld up. The oxygen sensor in the exhaust was part of the exhaust so I had to cut the 3 wires going to sensor. Then reconnected them using male and female bullet connectors then wrapped in all up in self amalgamating tape. Job done. Was thinking of using wagos n a wagobox lol (joke).

Can these be used on mains voltage? The straight through ones Are ok so why not these ?

I call them bootlace ferrules , ZeeZee , usually for control cables , makes it easy to disconnect and re-connect without damage to cores and no stray strands . Panel work.

Bullet jobbies used on vehicles a lot.

i use ferrules all the time. also very useful for getting 2 flex's into a downlight

bullet connectors can be used on mains voltage, but not used much

There are also reducing pins which are REALLY useful!

These take say a 16mmsq wire and let you fit it into a connection only capable of taking a 10mmsq.

VERY useful if you have up sized cables due to volt drop issues!

I often find bullet connectors in EM fittings where the battery has been swapped out and has no accessible terminals.

Hmm, OK I guess, ELV and enclosed, as long as they are the "right" way!

Sounds a reasonable application for them in fixed installs.

Take your point Slideyblinder , the hollow ones are for multi stranded flexible and are indeed correctly called Bootlace Ferrules .

Often used in the 17th consumer units for all those blue flexible neutrals.

Bootlace ferrules....so called because they resemble the ferrule type bits on the end of your botlaces, right???

So, why are the ferrules on the end of your bootlaces ACTUALLY called Aiglets?.....discuss, 10 points............................. :coat
