Oh dear, another victory for the publicity dept of Paramount Pictures. It's not a true story, just very loosely based on snippets of other reports of strange phenomena (ie. Bullsh*t).
Reportedly shot for $15,000 (although the Director has owned up to having re-shot scenes after the original shoot was picked up by the major studio. The re-shoots must have cost more than that!), it has one camera view throughout, kind of like Blair Witch Project, obviously to get some of that "genuine" atmosphere.
The publicity for the film started online well before it was up for release, to build up a body of people who already "knew" this apparently true story when the film appeared.
