fair point but... most of my work is maintenance and we are a poorly organised operation and what the customer says over the phone isn't always what's there when I arrive!

I always have at least 1 of everything! But given that I sometimes have 8 jobs in a day it's hard to keep track.

If it were all down to me I'm sure I wouldn't encounter these problems as often!

What about replacing accessories , wired & connected by A.N Aother ........  cables snipped off about 1" long ,   how the hell did they connect them in the first place, ?

Or , even today , I still find the earths totally snipped off short  to metalic fittings headbang

Had one today, about 15mm poking out of the conduit. god knows how they got duct tape round it and got it into a dimmer??

Power tools supplied with a short flex.

I had to use my multitool today to cut a hole in the wall up near the ceiling.  You have guessed it, the flex is shorter than the room is high, so the extension lead it was plugged into was hanging in mid air.

FFS given that the average room is 2.4 metres high and you need a little bit to work with, the very minimum length of flex supplied should be 3 metres.

ANOTHER one of my tools that I will haver to replace it with a 4 metre flex.

all my power tools have a 60309 on them, so never a problem with the plug / extension not being on the floor...

But a freakin nightmare to set up! 6 of the tiniest switches you've ever seen! Jumpers FFS and instructions that don't make sense!!!!!

The Designa  IP65 twin  socket at Denmans ,   mere mortals cannot release the front cover , once closed.   Only  someone with a bionic hand capable of exerting a grip pressure of  1000 foot lbs /per Sq. inch can open them .

Also modern 20mm brass bushes which are so thin the grips slip off them and some have hexagons so small they fall through a 20mm hole.

I'd  have thought there was a standard too  but the ones in my van now are about a third the weight & mass of the ones from the days of yore .   (When the hell was Yore? )

i found an old 1 g metal back box the other day. Burger me sideways the steel was almost 1/8" thick, if you dropped it on your toe you would have got the day off!

MK gridswitches....Yoke made in China

I will have a look tomorrow to see where the switches were thrown together

On a side note....MK grid Yokes....why do they not make a 3/4 gang version instead of a 3 and a separate 4? Also, why are the fricking cover screws M3 FFS loses one of them and you are Saviled, unless you retap the yoke to 3.5 and become creative with a countersink on the plate. Danlers dimmer modules look good on them though

Yes there is or at least was it was BS4568-2:1970.

However this has been replaced by BS EN 50086-1:1994, (however this std. remains current), which has in turn been replaced by BS EN 61386-1:2004.

BS4568 seems from what I can gather the last standard with dimensions for parts contained therein.

Further Investigation is required to confirm.

The fecking pile of shite B and Q fittings i was given today to put up

First fitting.....locknuts as slack as a wizards sleeve on two,of the three arms.....will not tightem

Customer took them back

Second lot.....had been previously returned by a n other and paperwork,in box tto,say so. Twonks had put straight back on shelf

Customer goes back again and complains

B and Q surprisingly NOT interested

He has asked me if I will ,take them to task tomorrow?

Now you know it is not in my nature to complain BUT in this case.........

I fitted a Buy and Quit ceiling light and fan for a customer a month ago.

I was back last week to remove it and put a different light up.  Two of it's three fan blades flew off one evening.

They gave her a full refund, plus her choice of replacement light free, plus they paid for the sparky (me) to swap it.

They denied all knowledge that it had been recalled due to a design fault. Probably wanted to keep here quiet and make sure she didn't take it further.
