Hi

I expect its a simple question, but any help appreciated.

two ceiling lights in a room, one wall switch.

One of the ceiling lights wiring only has one live and neutral, the other ceiling wiring has two live and two neutral, sort of what i would expect as one switch turns on both ceiling lights.

i replaced the light that had one of each wire, bit now im doing the other ceiling light. the image is attached  (when i can work out how to attached it :)

the existing rose has two live in one connector and one live in another connector, but all three neutrals are in separate connectors

The new ceiling light doesnt have enough electrical connector holes to match the existing wired light.

THe new light has a 4 hole connector.

Can all the live go in one hole and all the blue go in one hole?

thanks if you know.

I am confused, try to describe it more clearly.

At the "master" light you said it had 2 live and 2 neutral. you then go on to describe THREE lives and neutrals.  So that says to me it is wired "loop at light" and one of the red / black (or brown / blue) cables is the switch drop, so is in fact live and switched live.  I HOPE you know which of the three cable that is still.

hi dave

sorry if i forget the actual lamps, then one ceiling point has one set of wires (Live neutral earth) and the other ceiling point has two sets ( L N E).

the lamps themselves obviously have a set of wires each.

does that make sence?

ive not taken anything apart yet and photo'd it anyway 'as is'. id upload if i could but looks like you need to post 10 times before you can upload an image

i assume, switch goes to 1st ceiling point, then 1st ceiling point to second ceiling point, hence two sets of wires in the 1st point?

That makes more sense.  I think you confused me by saying they are in different "terminals" when you meant two adjacent screws in the SAME terminal (same physical lump of brass with two holes and two screws, is as far as I am concerned  ONE terminal)

So just put the two L's and two N's into the respective terminals on the new light fitting.

Thanks dave, i think my problem is the new light comes with a (i dont know the proper terminology) 8 hole connector (4 one side and 4 the other), i assume these 4 connecting holes only connect to each other (ie each side)

Am i right in assuming on the 1st ceiling light all three live need to connect to each other? (ie the wires form light 2 and the switch, AND the light fitting itself)

thanks

sorry but i want to make sure.
