car derived vans under 2 tonne are car speedsjust thought of an odd question, my parents drive a VW Caddy Maxi Life which is a people carrier version of the VW Caddy van, what speed limits would this vehicle be under as its a van derived car?
I'm glad to say Not, but I wouldn't have been too bothered if it was my old van, cos I was fed up with it.binky,Yours?...
if it says 'car derived' on log book, the DVLA cannot be wrong....I've got a Kangoo (wish I had something bigger)...IIRC Kangoos started out as vans and then got made into cars... mine says it's a car derived van on the log book or TAX renewal notice.. can't remember which
I would say Bengie going by the VW website and specifications for the Maxi Life coupled with the Department of Transport link the vehicle would be classed as a van and there for have to suffer lower speed limits. I concur with what you say Aidanb , but the VW caddy is van derived car not a car derived van so is still set at the van speed limits. IMHOCar derived vans <2 ton, and dual purpose vehicles have car speed limits, i.e van with extra passenger seats, glazed rear doors, side windows, no bulkhead etc. This could be a crew cab transit panel van for example, or the caddy maxi life mentioned above
A dual purpose vehicle does not have to be car derived though.I concur with what you say Aidanb , but the VW caddy is van derived car not a car derived van so is still set at the van speed limits. IMHO
