Following on from other members post about no rcd on lighting

Hi again

I've just read a post by NE1 where he asks about lighting circuits not on RCD and a few members have said that's fine for eicr at a c3 but does this apply to bathroom lighting aswell? I thought bathrooms had to be RCD protected?

It's a week old mate and in my case of the original post the lighting circuit in the bathroom was not protected.

NAPIT Codebreakers suggests:
6.1 - Circuit supplying locations containing a bath or shower - no 30 mA RCD protection as a C3. Reg. 701.411.3.3

Of course it depends on what edition of the regs you believe the installation complies with. And if the light is inside Zone 2. And if the light is IP44/45. In most instances I would agree with Luckboy. However if it were a pendant hanging in Zone 2 (ie if somebody standing in the bath could try changing the bulb) I might be inclined to make it C2.

The ESC best practice guide 4 says that it's a C3 so long as the supplementary bonding is adequate, if it has no RCD and Supplementary bonding then its a C2
