I used to like a mild and brown split, but most pubs don't do mild even these days.

Ah I was raised on Brown & Mild . The Brown Ales disapeared from behind the bar so continued with Mild . Now Mild is disapearing .
A Brown & Mild here was either Manns Brown or Toby Brown . Never embraced lager TBH ...tried it :_| but found battery acid preferable .
