Well that was in September ..tunnels have been open about 8 weeks ...with their new lighting and their fireproofing ..all at great cost to me  , the Ratepayer no doubt ...but  harken to me ...  what is this golden nugget of intelligent comment issuing  from Birmingham City Council this morning ....

..............  I paraphrase their announcement  ..........  "  ..in the interests of improving the traffic flow in the city  we are thinking of  closing down  the tunnels under the city permanently  ..........."

Well Yes  that'd do it I reckon ,  just like I crossed the city this Wednesday ,  tunnells OPEN, left job at 3.30 for home 12 miles away ...traffic was that bad it took longer to travel than Monday's job in Worcester !!!!!

Ah  like  closing the Mersey Tunnel would improve things in Liverpool ..  why stop there ...why not close all of London's bridges and tunnels ... The Severn Bridge,  Forth Bridge    and to hell with that damn Channel Tunnel ..who needs it ???

This council has spouted some carp in the past but this is well up in the top ten.

A good one is the Red Routes , instant death to park in a Red Route............. except where it passes through areas populated by our friends from the dominions who , it seems are allowed to park on red doubles with impunity. :innocent

The best bit though is spending the money to refurbish them and THEN deciding they are not needed.

I had to check the date, and no it's not April 1st.

Strikes me Deke you really really want to move so somewhere less crowded.

I hear the Highlands are nice. :coat

I know ...all those midges though eh?

I hear what you say though ,  I liked the comparative solitude the last time we were there , on the banks of Loch Long opposite where the mysterious grey, half submerged shapes glide in and out from the sea .

A cottage on the edge of a small village next to the church, and the rush hour is the postman's van at 9.00am .

I feel a photo coming on .

so im guessing that during the works, there was more traffic problems elsewhere? in which case, they obviously are needed,,,
It was horrendous Andy ,  obviously all the traffic that crosses B,ham  North to South  & vice versa  was pushed onto the all the other routes .

As I said , I was working over that side , 2 hours for the 10 mile journey  , OK its rush hour , but one half term , so without the school traffic , I left at 3.30 home in 20 mins.    The area is close to gridlock at busy periods  TBH .

And how come there are folk heading home from around 3.45  pm    OK I'm one of them but I work for myself , if I hear a dodgey traffic report  I'd rather leave earlier than suffer another long drawn out  trip .

I think thats the Paddler passing by .
