So it begs the question why introduce something that the yanks use already but still have 13% of fires caused by electrics???

surely if these things were any good then they'd cut supply prior to ignition?

Oh well time to get some shares in mfrs!!!

just a thought with all these additional protective devices will there be any room for the original protective devices???

No as they mount in the CU but you’ll need to fit larger CU’s as they take up two spaces. The manufacturers win again.

The latest wiz bang idea is to fit units after the AFDD to filter out some arc signatures, anyone spot a fundamental flaw in that?

I started to read the Sharpie's  link to the IET thing and after the first paragraph it dawned on me that after all these years in the trade ...I just can't be bothered anymore . :C

Obsessions with changing stuff for the sake of it ,  obsessions with smart meters or  fuseboards we've been fitting for the last 50 years suddenly becoming fire risks,

just Part Pee,s me off TBH  .

What about tackling something worthwhile like failing DNO earthing systems where the house owner is unaware until they employ a Sparky for something.

Sorry Deke but keep up with modern progression. Your proposal COSTS money not MAKES money. Safety is only relevant to those that have a note pad in hand.

Just out of interest... ( I've not yet read the link but have read the schneider blurb) I was installing a NEFF oven the other day and the MI's insisted on a DP switch with a 3mm contact gap, I thought that is quite a gap... its only a 12.5 amp load  and its got me thinking... When you get an arc from a light switch or socket would the AFDD trip? or would it only be L to N arcing on a double pole device??

Just pondering...

So when I go to old Dorris and change her wooden fusebox for a fireproof :)lol:) anti arching consumer unit and she goes to plug in the hoover into an old MK socket with pitted contacts and the AFDD trips she wont be wrong when she says: It wasn't like that til you turned up!

:slap

If you come up with a good excuse for the hoover tripping the AFDD I’ll pass it on to the septics, they’ve run out of ideas.
