I'm installing Warmup UFH mat system (6 sq m @ 150W/m), and using the new 3ie thermostat. My question is: the thermostat is going to be installed about 750mm below consumer unit on kitchen wall - would you still fit a fused spur as an isolator? Total load 900W; via a 6A 60898. Thoughts please. Thanks all.

if i remember right the instructions specifiy a double pole isolator

yes, if heating becomes faulty then there is a point of isolation from the rest of the circuit

as long as manufacturers dont require SFCU, then you dont have to install it. since its the only thing on the circuit, it shouldnt be a problem to wire straight to stat

Yes , fit the spur. Many , many years ago , one gaffer I worked for used to say, if its in the same room as the board , doesn't need an isolator . He was just trying to justify his tightness . Mr & Mrs Joe public/ housewife/ office worker type person would not go to a dist. bd to isolate something .

An MCB can be used as an isolator, the circuit should be RCD protected and the Consumer Unit Main switch gives double pole isolation IF it is required.

The manufacturer just states that it should be fed via an RCD fused spur.

One thing with ufh, if there is a n-e fault then the mcb would be no use to eliminate the fault and you may have to disconnect things if you don't have a dp switch somewhere?

In which case how about a dp switch supply end near the cu?

Don't know the layout obviously!

I have had a recent problem with ufh at a clients, water leak caused faults incl n-e, so had to dp isolate until dry to allow remaining circuits to work as premises was on single up front rcd, tooooooo much to ask to upgrade the db at the time!

lilman,

Then you have answered your own q.

Manuf' instructions require it thus it must be done, where you put the fcu is up to you.
