I can't help but think I have missed something somewhere, when we now live in an era where far too many of our population are needing to rely upon foodbanks. Why is Broadband an essential service , when food/water/clothes/heat/shelter etc. are NOT essential?

how else are people going to share their state of poverty if they don’t have access to Instagram, faceache, twitfeature, etc?

seriously though it does show how far gone we as a race have gone when something virtual becomes more important than basic existence. It will take some serious change in state of the world to reverse it now, not because it’s difficult but because the mind set needs a whole review.

the whole point of a universal high speed broadband is that it would help all the small and rural business' create employment ( better paid work?), so hopefully get people off the dole and out of foodbanks

And what might all these businesses be in?
Sheep porn!  :^O    No idea, but you would be surprised what is lurking in the countryside, such as a warehouse I know of near Launceston that is the biggest stockist of shotguns and ammunition in the EU. The point is that with decent broadband it makes it viable to set up a business outside of cities / towns. This in turn will allow local people to work locally and also take traffic off the roads.  It also makes it viable to relocate a business away from the SE and spread the wealth to other parts of the UK.
