hi all

i've just started a rewire in a 1920's house, there is floorboards in livingroom and i need to run the cable for the ring underneath to put sockets on far wall, the reason being is built in wardrobes and stairs to attic are above this wall and joists run wrong way to gain access. is this still ok or is this now not good practice?

Cables under floors?

No prob's.....

just make sure any appropriate fixing or protection is included to prevent any excessive mechanical strain on the conductors! ;)

if passing though joist must be 50mm from top or bottom to be clear of nails.

I prefer to keep cables above downstairs floors if possible although that is not to say I would not put them under there have many times.

thanks guys, got my annual assessment coming up soon and this will be one of the jobs as it will be in 1st fix stage and wasn't sure if it was bad practice. the joists are not deep enough to drill i'll just be clipping along its length, i myself like to keep cables above ground floor. cheers guys
