Can anyone reommend suitable GU10 replacements for use in a hair salon.  Currently they have 35 Gu10 in the salon and its not that bright as it is.  They had some Led's which they tried but were no good and they just use these in the waiting area.

I also need to do a calculation for them to see how long it will take to recoup the costs but Im sure i can figure this out.

Also has anyone used forum sponsor LEDHUT and any feedback on there lamps.

thanks in advance.

Anyone care to throw a little light on this subject?

Was mainly wanting to know if peeps had used leds from ledhut and if so what they thought about them once fitted?

I've bought led's from ledhut and there really good, nice spread of light. the 'warm white' version is a bit of strange colour until you get used to it it's more of a pastel colour'  and you can put several of the 12v editions on one transformer.

You can also sign up for a trade account that gives you a reduced price as well

ive been using the megaman LED lamp, they are retrofit size.  Decent light out put not like a laser beam in your face, and ok money.  There may be cheaper out there but im not prepared to try hundreds to find a decent one!

Thanks guys for the replies. I think ill look at getting a sample of both to show the client.

I was in Homebase recently and they had a deal on 2 led gu10's 5w(I think) for £9 on special offer, they said they were 35w equivalent and i think they are brilliant plenty of light coming out of them got 7 of them in my hall. Is a slightly whiter light that comes off them but its not hugely noticeable.

I didn't realise until recently there is 3 types of white for LED gu10s

Warm white - Yellow

Day light. - A little yellow

Cool white - White/blue

At one customers house over a couple weeks we tried all 3 and she preferred the halogen , difficult old bag.

Hey guys

I spoke to Nick today at LEDhut, he was really helpful.

I have ordered the 4 watt standard with 120deg beam, 320 lumens and the new 4.5watt 160deg 360 lumen lamps.

Will show customer the lamps later this week to see what she thinks.

Also a good discount if you set up a trade account so thanks Joseph for mentioning that to me (scoobed appropriately).

LEDHUt are fine, I have used them several times.

Avoid the SMD type - the spread of light is too wide and therefore quite diffuse. I would opt for cool white for better colour rendition - gives bighter feel more conversamt with business premises (think McDonalds style lighting). I would also opt for a bighter lamp 5-6 w, dependent on spacing - it's only an extra 35w for the entire salon, plus like all things LED fade with age.

You also get 'very warm white' at around 2600-2700K and 'cool daylight' at 6500- 6600K which aren't uncommon. There's probably other shades of white as well which are less common, I've also seen 'moonlight' shades which have a green tinge to them as well, not sure what their temperature is though.
