A customer has asked me to do several jobs in a house she has just moved into.

Amongst these jobs she wants a one way light on a staircase to be replaced with a sensor so the light is automatic .

ive seen a pir that is rated at 2000w so approx 8-9 amp, can this be used as a substitute in place of a switch?

Some people call them occupancy sensors. We use CP electronics ones on stairwells etc as they are microwave and very sensitive, They can see through glass and thin partition if not adjusted so in a house a pir sensor may be better. You can get flush ones that look similar to a halogen downlight.

thanks for the reply, ive seen a couple of those but wondered if they would work ok on a staircase or if an adjustable pir would be better as it could point up or down the staircase

Does a PIR work better if you are naked?

If i didnt want to set it off could i cover myself in cold mud like in predator?

I've heard you can sneak past a PIR if you wear a latex gimp outfit.

well,

you would need to ask Missweden if her alarm went off.  :D

It wasn't a recognised brand name, I hired it from a local 'fancy dress' rental shop and it smelled of bleach :(
errrr, yer, sorry about that, I could think of anything else to remove the stain,  :Blushing

Occupancy sensors just check if the room is still occupied and if not turn the lights off. You have to becareful becuase if you get just a occupancy sensor it will not turn the lights on. It only turns them off.
