Hi Everyone

Need a bit of help / advice please.

We have a heatrae sadia heater in our flat worked fine until the last 3 wks.

Ive had parents stay over so every day I have had to press the boost so there was enough hot water for us all to use. Since they have gone our boiler doesn't seem to been auto heating up in the middle of the night during the cheap economy 7 period eg: between 1-5am however there seems to be a tiny bit of hot water in the morning and afternoon but by the time it gets to 6pm there is no hot water even though nothings been used all day long.

Anyone know why this is happening? We are having to press the boost button in the evening for hot water - central heating works fine.

Thanks

I assume you are talking about a hot water tank.

Usually they have two heating elements. The bottom one heats the whole tank at night at the cheap rate. the one half way up heats half a tank of water on demand when you use the boost function.

Probably the bottom heating element, or it's thermostat has failed and will need replacing.

When you say the "central heating" is working I assume you mean storage heaters? That shows the overnight time switch is working okay and and rules that out for causing the hot water fault.

P.S your hot water tank is not a "boiler"

Thanks for your reply dave.

Yes hot water tank and it looks like 1 whole tank rather than top / bottom if that makes sense.

We actually have normal central heating rather than storage heaters.

So I will need to get someone out again? Any suggestions / recommendations for south east UK location or where to look online for an engineer?

Also what sort of average price should I expect to pay for thermostat replacement?

Is it a Maxiflo? Tall, white cylinder, two grey boxes on side. Needs a specific stat ....not just any old one

just had to swap over top and bottom stats on one this afternoon.

new flat owner, only hot water on boost. Lower stat is Barrymored

no chance of getting one before I finish...so did the next best thing so he can wash his Xmas pots

Why don't you post your local town rather than UK or "south east" - then you may find somebody near you.

FWIW to test the element on a storage heater or immersion heater isn't difficult if you have the right kit and knowledge.,..
