Hi All,

I have just started to re-train as an electrician and thought it would be a great idea to join an electrician forum or two and hopefully gain some helpful tips of the trade about every aspect of the profession.

Martin.

Hi M4tty, I don't mind you asking. I have started my training with Train 4 Trade Skills!! What are you thoughts on that? Any advise at this stage would me most appreciated!

Hi Batty, there are other forums around but not many a good as this one from what I've seen so far!!

I hope this forum serves you well. I deliver training and some of the forums I have seen should be closed down for the simple reason that a lot of guys get on them and have no idea what they are talking about. I never give out any forum names and I only give my trainees authoritative websites.

By way of amusement I pass a print out of one exchange... talk about a laugh.

hello Technician,

Welcome to the forum.

Have a look around, we all have our off moments, some of us also deliver training, and undertake other works than a normal domestic electrician.

I hope your sample exchange was not from this forum!

Unfortunately authoritative websites seem few & far between!

The manufacturers have a sales angle on their sites and there is little else out there apart from the forums really.

Welcome to the forum MartinLT, I hope that you can obtain some valuable information.

We try our best.

Sidewinder: Morning; No, this piece of garbage was not, repeat not,

in this forum. I printed it and show it to trainees at the appropriate

moment.

The contributor was barely literate, mixing up fusing factor with

information in the OSG concerning circuit breaker types and was plainly

out of his depth.

Look forward to having intelligent exchanges and learning a little more

about how I could improve my training delivery.

Hello & welcome to (in my view) possibly the best electrical forum going.

As sidey said there are some very very knowledgeable contirbuters here from all areas of our chosen profession....that said they tend not give direct answers to college questions, but if you show that you have had a crack at getting the answer (dont be shy about not knowing or having the wrong answer you will get help here) they will give a reply so as to help those learning find/work out the answer for themselves.

Hi Mate, welcome to the forum, point you made, it is a very good forum and friendly too. Being a seed sprouting in this diverse garden of opputunity im sure you will be nurtured with sound advice by forum members. Good Luck Dude....

Allo.

DON`T, whatever you do, sit on that scabby old bar stool down the end - it belongs to the "rag `n bone man" - and he gets REALLY upset if somebody nicks his seat.

The pouffe with the tassels is Deke`s - if you sit there, you`re asking for it (and will probably get it).

Guinness is in the (locked) fridge - I open it on special occasions.

Mixed bar - there ARE ladies (cough) wot frequent the establishment, so remember your manners!

Above all else, if you forget everything else in this post (like I have), Admin`s home is a "workshop" (like Santa, but scowling) ; NEVER a shed - instant, 10-lifetimes ban (concurrent).

Oh, nearly forgot - -many of the members are, or ought to be, sectioned. Don`t try to "pet" them if they haven`t had their medication.

From day one in my training sessions I get the guys to dive into their copies of the regulations.

I always make the point that the more familiar it becomes, the less it looks like a book in a language from Planet Zog. I make these points because by the time they do their 2382 they will know at least half of the answers and will then have more time to look for the answers they need to find. I know when this is succeeding when they come back in discussions and challenge something I have said. Invariably another guy comes in and says "you are right but look at Reg so-and-so on page ......" To anyone who is in training I would say the same; make that text your best mate.
