I’ve just had a new double socket fitted in my kitchen and he’s put “trinket” or whatever it’s called the white plastic casing running down wall to double socket. The problem for me it it’s running parallel with the gas pipe that’s runs along wall to my cooler, closest point is 70mm but someone said it has to be at least 150mm apart but the sparky who put it in said that’s rubbish.

who do I believe??

Reading BS 7671 18th edition, section 528.3 (proximity to non-electrical services) - there are no measurements stated, but there is a reference to  BS 6891 (gas regs)

The issue here is not discussing just what the options are before he did the job.

You want a socket just there. But you have to get wires to it somehow.  So the cheap option is trunking.  But in most cases it looks awful.  If it's a solid plastered wall, then you have to cut a channel, bury the cable, re plaster over it and re paint.  It will take longer, make more mess and cost more.

Which do you want?  discuss that BEFORE the job starts.

EDIT:

Just seen the photo.  That room looks like it is being refurbished. I would have been asking for the cable to be buried AND the pipe moved to the corner and either buried or put in trunking in the corner.

Believe the electrician who said it was rubbish, rather than the know-all, know-nothing "mysterious someone".   There is a small guidance booklet that accompanies BS7671 wiring regulations. That suggests 25mm is sufficient between cables or sockets & gas pipes. (150mm is between fuse boxes & gas pipe). See following scans.

Personally I would advocate that the 'someone' is a 🔔 🔚

as sparks we work to the Wiring regs BS7671 as amended and the majority of us do not give a flying 💩 about the Gas Regs. Not our problem

Gas bloke says "all, pipes need bonding at boiler"....OK mate, no problem, you do it, jog on!

just by insular bigoted opinion obviously 🙄

It'll be fine don't worry .

As Dave said , I'd have thought , considering the stage of the refurb , the socket wiring could have been flush .

Consider your gas boiler ..... its full of electric bits at 240V  .
