My thanks for that researching  guys ...great !!

I now have to bow my head in shame ...upon finding , tonight , my  G/G / Grandfather  .   I wondered why Matilda was shown as the head of the house , it looks like he was doing a 10 yr stretch in Clink .

Seven up from the bottom of left page .

Oh dear  Oh dear ! :(

are you sure he was your G/G/Grandfather , I take it Matilda was your G/G/Grandmother , as Matilda (46) has a daughter of 22, and other's of 19,16, ? unless it's not the same year

Ah I see the confusion .  The other census is for 1871    ...the prison one is in 1841 .

I'd say it was him :

Right name

Right age

Right birthplace

Right occupation

And IIRC none of the others matched .

Some of the occupations are interesting.

Turnkey

Philosophical Instrument maker  ?

Caulker

Hawker

Sawer

Costermonger.

a see now,

Turnkey I think worked in a gaol/jail

a caulker worked on boats/ships

a costermonger is still around he would be working in a market selling fruit and veg

a hawker sold stuff he could carry a bit like Del Boy

a sawer would be a chippey today

I hope they are all correct

as for a Philosophical Instrument maker, I do not have a clue?
