hi all, im new here, im gary , 29 from cheltenham, gloucestershire, been installing fire alarm systems and burglar alarms for the past 11 years now, and have decide to branch out into domestic electrical installations aswell in order to maximise my income. i have recently completed part p etc and im now looking into who i should register with under the competent persons scheme. unsure weather to go with elecsa? or niceic at the moment? any thoughts would be gratefully appreicated.

look forward to using the forums

Welcome to the forum.

I would recommend ELECSA. I made that decision about 18 months back and found ELECSA seemed to be more focused on their members than NIC were.

Hi Gary welcome to the forum I'm in chelt too.

When i was thinking about registering i looked into it, everyone but NIC were not there before the Part P implementation they only could see a chance to make money out of it. NIC opened a domestic installer part and have been going for a lot longer.

I cant speak about the other Part P providers as i've only ever been with NIC sometimes like other PPL i may think why but until such time as the others become recognized then i would not move, most homeowners don't even know about part P but they know about NIC.

I am not saying that the others are no good just if you want to sub for the bigger company's around your area( clarkson evans, nextek, carters etc) they will want NIC, also if you want to do any insurance work and a lot of letting agents want NIC (because they are more strict when it comes to reg ect... )

To all the other guys this is only my personal opinion and is not a aimed at anyone!!!

*cough* ECA.

Thanks for the welcome everyone, well ive today made my mind up and went with the niceiec, simply after speaking to all companies, i managed to get them to allow me to make the payment in stage payments, which allows my money available be for further usefull things in starting my company to run more effecient. also as some have pointed out the nic are more known.
