Hi to everyone and congratulations for a friendly forum :) . This makes it much more encouraging to post queries, especially simple ones!

I was in auto electrics some years ago but have been in manufacturing ever since. Because of the recent downturn and the fact that I get bulk time off, I decided to retrain and spent last year studying and came out with C&G 2377, 2382, EAL part p and 2391. Before last year`s knowledge starts to fade I am looking at joining a competent persons scheme and working part-time in domestic work. I`ve narrowed the providers down to NAPIT or Elecsa but what do you guys think? I can`t see me working for any of the organisations that normally stipulate NIC (councils etc), at least for a while so do you think it sensible to consider the others?

Thanks for reading and in advance, thanks for any replies

Craig

Hello and welcome to the forum. It's good to have you onboard. :D

most bigger companies have only heard of the NIC, so it does have its uses. but if your with someone else, you can just remind them that there is more to electrical than the NIC

Elecsa is a good choice

Hello Pluto welcome to the forum. I am with British Standards for the part p. They only Electricians and not Kitchen fitters Etc. Some of the scheme providers are also like this so you have to choose the one that suits what you want to do.

Hello & welcome Pluto :)

I'm NICEIC!

looks like you have the whole set covered for personal preferences & choice...

think you just need to check out the cost & benefits that are applicable to you...

I would suggest..

They ALL have good points.... :D

and the ALL have bad points! :(

good luck for the future m8!:)Guiness Drink

Thanks for all the replies guys :) :) :) . Think i`ll look a bit deeper into NIC, NAPIT and Elecsa. We`re having a two-storey extension this year and new attic trusses etc (rather big job!!) so i`ll be limited as to how much I can take on, electrically. However, it should be good fun doing my own install in the extension and house re-wire, then having the ability to sign it off. Probably fit in some small jobs for other people in between  . I was steared from NIC slightly after one or two rumours from people who are with them e.g them getting your competitors to come and assess you  . Bit of an atmosphere there then.....

Craig

How are you limited, Craig.

You could do it through your LABC. And use it for an assessment job for whichever PartP scheme provider you go with.

Regards,

Admin.

Sorry mate, I probably explained that poorly Blushing. What I meant was i`ll be limited, with regards to time i.e I can`t take too many electical jobs on this year because of our extension project at home but have to make a start by joining a competent persons scheme so I can sign my own work off, both at home and that of any customers. That`s why, for the time being I don`t need the status of NIC and therefore I am looking at Elecsa and NAPIT.

Incidentally, when you are assessed on your 2 jobs and they want to see your portfolio for the year, if you haven`t been part of a scheme is the assumption that you have paid Building Control after every job that you have done that is notifiable?? If that`s the case it won`t be much of a portfolio when you`re paying BC

elecsa only checked 1 of my jobs, a re-wire. on first assessment he also checked past certs (but there wasnt many). 2nd year, he had a look around another re-wire of mine but not in as much detail and also looked over past certs again

British Standards who I am with wanted to see one first fix and I think it was two second fixes also a commercial job because I am registered to do commercial work. The second year I only had to show second fixes.

Thanks for all the replies, i`ve had a look and will probably be going with Elecsa. Watch this space for queries regarding assessment Pray
