Sounds like the volt drop on some of the wind farms they are building here in some insanely remote places. One I know of has a 7 mile long private track just to get from the nearest public road to the wind farm site. God knows how long the grid connection cable is.

For a constant 500Va load that's some array of panels and bank of batteries, to cope with a dark winters day. I think you would be looking at a combination of solar and wind generation
