Yes, so very yesterday I know.

But I'm changing my broadband supplier and the new account won't go live until 4th June.

My current ISP is paid for monthly.

I have the feeling that it will all stop on 1st June unless I pay them for a full month (which I am not doing)

So for those few days, just to pick up emails, I want to set up a dial up networking account, you know with one of those things called a modem. Something I last did with Windoze 98

But I can't find how to do it on XP?

That's more or less what I have tried.

BUT when I get to configuring the new connection, the "connect using a dial up modem" option is greyed out.

You might think that means I don't have a modem in the PC, but I do, and querying it from Control

Panel tells me "this device is working properly"

Perhaps I need to unplug the network connection to disconnect the broadband before it will let me use dial up?

Dave, as an option, could you not put some unlimited internet on your mobile phone for a month, then tether it to your PC?

might work out a lot cheaper,

I have unlimited internet on my phone for 12£/month inc my calls etc, tethering is not allowed though, not that I would ever do such a thing, [cough cough]

[you are limited to 1G/hr], which is more than enough to watch the bike racing via TV streaming.,

Quite apart from mobile reception being so bad here you have to go outside with the phone to make a call, you must remember I still have a clockwork mobile phone. I haven't progressed to a modern steam powered one, let alone one that does internet.

I hadn't anticipated this particular problem when switching broadband suppliers, and it may not actually happen. But given I always have some on line banking to do in the first few days of each month, I want to be prepared.
