600mm is recommended by OSG - but the regs actually say it should be buried deep enough to avoid any foreseeable damage.

I think I have seen recommendations of 600mm for general locations or 1m for ground likely to be ploughed or dug over?????

I believe you could avoid burying where you have a handy wall or structure that you could attach to.
