Found this picture on the web.  Local High Street  leading to my school .     From 11 to 15 yrs old   I often cycled along here to school , which was out of sight by the bus on far right .  Can't imagine ANY kids cycling alone through that lot these days , all in cars now .

Birchfield Road, Perry Barr..jpg

Where I started my apprenticeship in 1971

It looked quite tidy just before I stated.

Once I started we knocked the place about a bit.

23 years later I left the company and they tidied the place up.

The work we did changed the kilns from the most inefficient to the most efficient in the country.

PS we didn’t suffer from inverse gravity :slap

It is a bug on the forum.  Does it whenever I upload a photo.  Very annoying.
No it's a "bug" on your computer.

Your OS very "helpfully" auto rotates your pictures so you don't even know they are stored upside down. but the forum does not do that.

Edit the photo, rotate it, and re save it.

Or has Essex moved to Australia?

Well theres less traffic on the road these days Deke, so that's an improvement at least ;)

Just been out and took some photos:

How annoying is that?

I love seeing comparison pics like these, (even if I had to stand on me head) Have you  seen the wartime/modern day ones of Paris?

It is awful.      And ProDave's comment is correct .   Photo must have been taken at 5.0am on Christmas Day as usually theres a million vehicles a hour steaming through there .

The old pictures as I said was the route to school and also part of my paper round  .  ( 13/-6d  a week)
