hello fellas ,

Have been asked to quote for new A/C install in northampton , peterborough and oxford for the same company .

Would really like to get this work as not had much experience with A/C and would like to give it a try ,

My question is about how much to charge as dayrate ?

The customer is asking for a flat day rate , this is not so much of an issue , was going to say £180 per day.

As i am northampton based my issue is with charging to travel to the oxford and peterborough sites .

Do i charge the same day rate and just add a travel expence ( 45p per mile ) or do i change the dayrate according to the distance / time to travel .

advice pleasssssssssssssse .

thanks wayne

Whatever you need to run your business.

As far as HMRC are concerned 'commuting' is done in your own time. It is very different to having to drive for work.

I'd say you have 2 options:

If you are charging £180 per day for a 9 hour day then you leave home at 8.00 and start the clock running. Maybe a small extra expense for mileage.

Get up early, charge mileage and do a full day on site.

Why not ask the customer how he usually deals with this problem, maybe he already pays a set price per mile, maybe you could/should work out realistically how much per day this travel will cost and simply add it to the day rate e.g £180 upto £200!?

Don't forget, even if you don't normally use your vehicle for work, you can charge your travelling at the hmrc rate of 44p per mile.

When I've done this, I charge 40p per mile if using my own van and hourly rate driving to job. No charge for way home.
