Hi everyone.

Some help on the following would be really great.

I got a call last week by a customer complaining that his 2006 IKEA Termosfar kitchen downlights had just stopped working and could I take a look?

Got to the house and found one of those exposed wire (like a train track) sets with 5 x 12v 20w halogen lamps connected across, hitched across the kitchen ceiling. The power is supplied from a chrome effect perforated plastic 'ball' with a 240/12v transformer inside.

Anyway, I set about the usual tests and checked the mains feed to the power supply - OK

Checked for output from the power supply - Nothing (as suspected)

So, set about getting a replacement PSU, and, as I'm sure you know, couldn't get a replacement on it's own from IKEA !!! You must buy the whole set (

Cheap crap transformers. I'd swap it for a decent one, and also remove all the fittings and retighten and clean all the LV connections.

+1

they might simply be brighter because the orginial tranny was duff and the new one is working fine ;)
