Hello everyone,

My new battery bank (Pylontech) is performing well, they have levelled out and are charging and discharging as expected.

With the onset of winter, I thought that I would adjust the settings on my Imeon hybrid inverter to boost the charge during off-peak times to re-utilise later in the evening.

I was thinking along the lines of charging the batteries for a couple of hours each morning from 0400 to 0630 then taking what power I can from the sun to boost that and simply monitor and tweak as I go along

I did ask Imeon of they had a solution which took into account their weather forecast for the following day and tying this into how many hours of additional "boost" one might need but their response was to search the FAQ'S i.e. they were not interested.

Using HomeAssistant I could possibly accomplish this but that would take me a long time to configure for not too much gain.

If I were to charge the batteries using off-peak power as above, should I change the settings on the inverter from "discharge only at night" (which is currently selected)?

I ask as that would then allow me to possibly give a set time period when to discharge (perhaps 1700 to 2300) that would ensure only on charge and discharge cycle per 24 hours.

What do others on here do?
 
Generally people discharge during the daytime aswell. Having charged up on a cheap off peak, you don't want to be buying any day time rate leccy if possible, and it helps maxmise the return on buying a larger battery pack. If it then turns out excess solar recharges the battery, then it reduces what you buy the following off peak, so no real loss of surplus solar energy, if you follow my drift.

I have everything running quite nicely at the moment with the battery getting a few hours charge to bring it from 30% to around 80% overnight using cheap electricity with the remainder being charged via solar during the day.

I have a fail over in that should the battery not get enough charge from the sun, it gets a boost at 1530 for 90 minutes which takes it to 100% - obviously, if the battery is already at 100%, it doesn't he this boost.

The battery bank then discharged from about 1800 to midnight when the off-peak power rate cuts in and we repeat the whole cycle.

I guess that I will leave this as is until March although I will monitor for efficiency.
