Hello All, I hope someone can help.

I have an Elson Coral E 210l hot water tank which I believe has 2 elements, 1 at the bottom heating the main bulk of the tank and 1 at the top heating the top of the tank.

I am not on economy 7 and just have a flat rate 24 hours/day.

There is no timer and no visible thermostat.

My question is first of all, what is the best way to run this type of water heater? Should it be left on 24/7 or should I turn it on before I actually need the hot water.

I live in a 2 bedroom flat and I only need enough hot water for 2 showers each morning and could do without hot water for the rest of the day.

Also, is there any danger to just having the top element on 24/7 and having the bottom switched off? We have a 3way switch that can apparently change from off to bottom to top.

Thanks in advance for your help

Irrespective of which heater you use you need to ensure

that the water temperature does not exceed about 60 deg

Cel.  As you state the tank has two heaters, the bottom was

the economy 7 heater and the top one was the "top up"

heater if more heat was required when the E7 was not in

use and it was never the intention to have both of them on

at the same time.

The way it is done now is with a tankside thermostat

which measures the tank metal temperaure.  Including a

timer into this set up should not be a problem.
