Hi,

just a quick question... im currently studying level 2 City and Guilds at Trade skills 4 U.. I was wondering in regards to employment do employers look at wether your exam results are either a Pass, Credit or Distinction?

Does it matter as long as you pass and get the overall certificate?

I have my sights set on working at power stations or sub stations but seeing as i am new to the game just any job will do wether its Domestic, commercial or industrial.... anyone got any advice for sumone who's just starting out?

would b much appreciated...

many thanks!

:)

Just keep your chin up mate and keep trying but its hard out there at the moment and looks like it may get worse with the vat increase after christmas. Welcome to the forum btw.

cheers mate will do...

Thanks for the advice.. much appreciated buddy...

How did u start off if u dont mind me asking?

I went self employed mate as have a few contacts in the trade through my old man so i get work from them but it is really hard out there at the moment. How old are you if you dont mind me asking?

Yeah ive heard its hard out there but ive also heard that uk is in short supply of electricians and that its a good trade to get into....

Im currently 28 so ive still got abit of life left in me lol

I don't think the level you got will make much difference, unless there were others applying for the same jobs with better grades.

If you are thinking of starting up on your own I can highly recommend contacting the princes trust. Its for 18-30 year olds and a scheme to help young people start businesses. They send you on a 4 day business enterprise course where you learn about being in business, accounts, hmrc, marketing, advertising etc. Its free and they reimburse travel. Afterwards they provide you with 3 years business mentor support which you have monthly meetings and they help you getting your business known etc. Im 30 and done the princes trust course last year. They also give you a very low interest loan (

Hi NJ ,

Q1 Are you an Ozzie ?

Q2 if yes why would you leave there for this 2nd rate, bankrupt ,rainy island with its fast shrinking manufactoring base .

Q3 Who told you there was a shortage of electricians , its a shortage of work ,is what it is.

Regards the certs , I don't think it matters a flying phart about distinctions etc.

Welcome to the Forum and stick with us.

thanks guys much appreciated...

yea im from aus... I love the uk tbh.. despite the weather lol

Ive heard from a number of people that theres been a shortage of sparkys.. my teacher being one of them and ppl tht work in the trade tht i go to college with aswell...

Its also a lot cheaper to train here as a sparky than in aus but there is also a huge demand for the back at home... i thought while i was here ... why not.. ive always been interested in it so im giving it a right go at it...

Theres tons of money to be made working in the mines over in perth.... cleaners (for example) earn $110k a year...

ive also heard that uk is in short supply of electricians
Welcome to the forum, to be honest many of our members tend to think that "shortage of electricians" is more an advertising tag-line for these training companies. Much like Microsoft always say their new operating systems is the best ever that will solve all your computing problems. Looking in your local press and job center for "electricians jobs" would probably give a more realistic reflection of any jobs shortage.

As i have said before, if i was looking to get into "a trade" this would be the last one the list.

Unless you have an established client list then you will have no hope.

Even fully qualified, experienced sparks are struggling for work.

If they cant get a job then newbies have no chance, employed or self employed.

I don't think the level you got will make much difference, unless there were others applying that are actually electricians.Welcome to the forum
welcome, but I dont hold out much hope for you,

work is bad for most right now.
