Not sure how much self-employed builders earn in the UK? The average hourly wage in 2017 for a self-employed builder was between £120 and £200, depending on experience and specialism. This compares favourably with other tradesman jobs, putting it in the same bracket as specialists such as electricians and plumbers.

You’ll generally be working outdoors, but there may be some internal work too. You’re likely to work in a variety of settings, both residential and commercial, including dwellings, hospitals, or even roads.

According to City and Guilds, the average builder works a 37 hour week, generally starting at either 7:30 or 8am. There may also be the opportunity to take weekend overtime.

If I was earning £200 per hour in the week then there is no way I would give um my weekends for overtime.

I am obviously not "the right sort"  In a previous employment when offered an annual bonus, I tried to negotiate with my employer for a pro rata increase in holiday allowance rather than a cash bonus.  No luck, I got my bonus and the tax man took 40% of it.

Apprentice 87   I think you  jumped to a conclusion there  ...that would be   £ 120  -  200  per day .

There was a time when I quoted at £25 /hour   ( £200  /Day)   but as that recession began to bite we started to reduce it .    That figure was always too high for local builders.

£25 an hour needs to be the minimum to make a living - builders tend to be a bit different on that front, but I can get £19 an hour on a site these days, so why should they pay less and drive Range Rovers???

I'm always suspicious when I see a builder in an American style pick up , with tyres that cost more than my van .  They've always turned out to be Merchant Bankers .
