Looks like that

Wanted ideas to replace it - Parrot is well known, but expensive in comparison to others....so thought I`d utilise the collectives` knowledge

Can you not change the head unit, could get one with DAB too?

Built in microphone, iPhone compatible, phone then comes through the radio speakers, thus auto muting the radio.

Parrot or bury kits.

Out of the two I'd go with parrot, we had some issues with the bury kits (early models granted) & BB handsets, where the handset didn't mute its mic as part of the blue tooth protocols....same happens if you use a Nokia blue tooth car kit with some other handsets. your caller just gets lots of echo of them selves with the occasional clanger squeal thrown in..................feed back is a wonderful thing.

I've put a i9000 in one of the motors at work, the controls can be fitted to the steering wheel, this gets you round the driving with undue care/attention issue when you have to look down to operate phone controls (when the voice activation isn't working), or if its a small kit you want look at the parrot minikit neo.

Snakey - was thinking of that as an option; it appears that the other best option is the parrot.

Must admit, I like the idea of swapping the head - although that might have its own issues, as some of the van control functions are handled from there.........

It can all be sorted these days, I also have an account with a car audio accessories supplier.

They don't do the head ubpnits, but they do all the adaptors & stuff.

Mrs SW Jnr is currently doing her practical car test, she wants a handsfree, so I am thinking about swapping the head unit in the Ka.

I've had a cheapo one for some time now , (Totally against driving while using hand held phone )    I think its called Visor Liite .  Mostly I ignore the phone when driving or  just switch it on when it rings as  the Bluetooth connection tends to drain the battery.

Watched "White Van Man" this morning trying to negotiate a traffic island one handed as he dealt with an obviously very important call while putting everyone elses lives at risk .

Don't you have BT built into your van radio then, as well as DAB?

Taking Halfrauds as an example:

http://www.halfords.com/sat-nav-audio/car-entertainment-technology/bluetooth-headsets-car-kits/parrot-mki9200-bluetooth-handsfree-kit

£139.99

http://www.halfords.com/sat-nav-audio/car-audio/dab-radios-car-stereos/kenwood-kdc-bt43dab-bluetooth-ipod-usb-cd

£179.99

Same features & more then the Parrot, plus DAB!

Fitting bits additional with both obviously.

£40 for DAB, to get Planet Rock well worth it! ;)

Fix or Repair Daily :slap

The other reason we didn`t want to go head unit, is that, on change of van, its a change of unit too :(

Unless the "new" van has it installed already........

I don't get the issue with changing the head unit, you can put the old one back, and keep the new one for another vehicle.

As long as you Fix It Again Tomorrow, has a normal head unit?

£90 for a hands free kit!

A bloody radio is cheaper, if, you had a tidy van! ;)
Gawd - you can go off people round here ;)

My van may not be the tidiest - but it IS owned :slap

Besides, from looking - I could get a head to emulate the command functions of the radio - for a 1996-07 van.

Mine is newer - the radio would cost a damn sight more, `cos it`d be main dealer nonsense.

PLUS - as said earlier - it isn`t as transferable - and I may well change vans next year.

If the "new" van has it built it - then the parrot can go in the car.

Simples
