Information regarding connecting solar kit to mains

Hi all,

I'm interested in installing a couple of panels at home but am unsure of how to connect the panels (via an inverter) to the home mains circuit...

Could someone kindly detail what would be required to do this? I'm assuming there would need to be something between the inverter and the actual consumer board in the home?

My goal would be for the panels to be able to contribute to the main supply to the home.

Pretty decent, 17th edition regs (quite a while back!).

People who are knowledgeable will ask u you questions but every question will relate to touching , making a new circuit as that's what these people want to do. So as simple as an inverter is to connect it's a new circuit and we all know what that means.

You are correct Gian, is trained professionals may know what that means but as you have pointed out this forum is open to all, so they may not, and equally we wouldn’t want any comeback to the forum for not making people aware or even being aware of the OP’s capabilities and understanding before advising to just go ahead and install, as it’s so easy to do.

Perhaps this is the problem with electrics, it’s all too easy to just go and connect up and it works so it must be safe. No maybe that’s why Part P was introduced in the first place??
So now explain what is wrong in asking what someone’s competence and understanding is before engaging in a ‘How to’ lesson?

In my experience, thousands of electrical designers and electricians do not find it simple to correctly, safely and compliantly create a new circuit for a solar feed-in, so it’s not as simple as you are suggesting.

It’s not here to give step by step advice to all and sundry and to protect the forum it’s best to check.

That’s my position.

There are other forums better suited to your gung-ho attitude.

Do you know why you shouldn't share an RCD with a solar inverter? The answer is on this forum, a few years ago, but it's a serious safety issue most people don't know about. So whilst a new cct for solar is simple enough, the safety implications aren't so obvious.

Lol fantastic, your correct and according to hse qualified electricians are still not getting it right, but we all think we are the best. Diyers need to get proper skilled electricians in to satisfy safety always.
