Well, just a quick post, not put much thought into it at the moment, just a feeler for ideas.

I have a bit of an issue.

It seems I need to run a gas bond in, none present, into a listed church, not sure which grade, but that is not quite critical, yet.

It is around a 55m run with the only feasible route 4m above ffl.

The route is around the perimeter at wall plate level.

Church is in regular use, pews in the way, and the roof design is not really helpful for ladder use.

Around the outside is even longer, and, would look rubbish, plus we'd have to run it by CADW.

I'm open to suggestions.

TN-S though probably TN-C-S outside the walls!

That is not quite relevant though.

DNO transformer about 5m from the corner of the church in the grounds!

Lots of beams in the way, flooring at different levels near the walls.

One span of around 8m has no wall plate, so would need to go from wall plate level 4m, to pitch roof level and follow this and add probably 20m to the run, and require access at around 10m!

Suggestions please?

Had thought of this Dave, but, much concrete surrounding the church, plus the DNO sub not 3m from one corner of the main building on the shortest route.

Plus buried earthing conductor 16mm, mind for that length it could be anyway.

Keep 'em coming please?

sounds like it's either head for the eaves or tidy conduit run in something like black conduit that blends in better with stone. D-line trunking available in several colours. Daft question bus does the church have underfloor hot air heating? catacombs? or other type of basement? is taking skirting boards off to hide cable behind a possible?

Thanks Binky,

The inside is plastered & painted, & I doubt CADW would allow conduit round the outside.

I think a meeting with the Church council is in order.

Please keep any suggestions coming.

The run where we have to go up to the top of the pitch, the other option is to run the bond behind the un-lagged heating pipes with the ring final & lighting cables!

Yes, another observation...

Jono,

I'm not sure what you mean PAV=Powered Access Vehicle?

If so, unfortunately no, also floor levels vary too much, it would need to be a boom type MEWP, and they are bigger than the space for he reach needed I believe, but, I will ask.

Option A)

This is where we need some ingenious brain to go on Dragons Den with a Wireless Bonding Conductor...

Knew I should have kept those plans....

Option B)

get the gas men to move the meter nearer!!!!

Option C)

Double the price you offer to Martyn to sub it out!

and include free chocolate digestives!

:B-

I hope you lot are good sparkies - `cos you`re not comedians :coat

Moving the gas meter.......might actually be a sensible option?

Otherwise - copper tape might be an alternative to cable - but the cost may be prohibitive.

Is there a gas pipe nearer to your MET? Could you follow the existing pipe as far as necessary? Or even bond further than the 600mm, which may be satisfactory if it isn`t practicable to get that close?

If you DO have to access above pews, etc - aerial lines (not THAT sort of aerial, either!) might be more advantageous than a MEWP.

If all else fails - take flying lessons :slap
