I got pulled by the police for replying to a mobile 'phone call

AFTER stopping on the hard shoulder.  This was in 2000 &

we did not have the legislation on use of mobiles in cars we

have now.

He told me that while I was right to stop, I had no good reason

to be stopped on the hard shoulder.  I ought (in his judgment)

to have left the motorway at the next exit (1 mile ahead) and

dealt with it then.

I agree that them that talk on these things in shops, ESPECIALLY when being served are rude.... well rude. Often though, when i am in a shop, not like a supermarket, but like a small firm, if they are serving me and the phone rings, i tell them "go on, answer it" I you see, might only be buying a drill bit or something poxy, THEY, [being small businessmen] might miss a call where someone wants to buy a £4000 welding set or something.

It is different with Apache. What you must think is, how would you feel if you tried to dial 999 for an ambulance for a loved one and there was no answer, or an answerphone. I myself am not too worried about animals, [convenient target for sportsmen!!] but a lot of people love their pets, and panic like hell if they are hurt or injured... Apache must take a lot of emergency calls where he has to rush off in a big hurry leaving his vets practice, and then go and shoot someone's beloved horse or something, he must see an awful lot of distraught people that have got more to worry about than "the trip keeps tripping"

john...

Techie  I have to agree with the cop TBH  ...they've seen all the terrible accidents on the roads  and you put yourself in danger by stopping on the shoulder .   I won't answer when driving but will use the hands free sometimes if I'm expecting something important ,  but I think even that takes some of your concentration  .  I generally ignore the phone when driving but admit to then thinking ....."I wonder who that was ...I wonder if it was so & so "

Yes Evans.....I did not argue the toss.

Everyone who knows me also knows that I will

NOT answer the 'phone will driving.  Not even

IF I had a hands free set.

I find very funny are these people walking down the street with there phone in hand showning them which way to walk and a bottle of water in the hand .Are they driods ?

I usually fetch fish & chips around 7.00 on Saturdays  , I'm in the queue and notice three customers who , as they were being served , were either texting or actually talking on their cell phones , none said thank you to the lady serving , just paid, took their change , took their order, still talking carp on the phone and left .

One bloke was about to pay when his phone rang , so he left his order on the counter , walked over to the window and took the call , the lady had to move his order, serve the next two  until he decided to return , pay and leave.

So bloody rude .

Or am I just an old phart who doesn't even take his phone to the chippie.?

No mate there are some ignorant barstewards about, mobiles are great, but used in the right context not glued to yer freaking lughole 24/7
