saw an rcd enclosure next to a DB today to feed a shower. The feed to it came from the out of the main switch via a 6mmT&E cable through the back into the void and in through the back of the rcd enclosure from the void.

is there any problem with this i think not at the moment.

no (apart from the mains fuse) the same as 10mm tails would have but it is only a very short peice and is hidden away in the void

A problem could arise if someone were to install a shower requiring a larger cable?

you should not be relying on the service fuse for fault protection. either way, i doubt the 4mm earth would be able to operate it if there was a fault anyway

Agree with above, It needs a MCB or equiv. Alot of 'less knowledgeable' people seem to think that an RCD that in rated at say 40A will act as a mcb would. Not the case!

Now if it came out of a breaker in the board and then the RCD was inline, that would be different.

the earth wire only comes into effect after the rcd and mcb to the shower and with an rcd there is no problem with 4mm. There could however be a short between L&N on the T&E but there could be on 10mm tails too.

Barx.........it doesnot come from a breaker in the board but there is one in the enclosure.

Was it JUST an RCD in the enclosure? People keep asking but you don't answer.

Could it have been a 2 pole rcbo? I've done that before to feed a shower when there was no room to fit an RCD and separate mcb.

If the 6mm Tw& e

Well, now you say that, No! I would not say it is OK. should not be burried as there is no protection for that type of installation method.
What about rcd protection if the cable is less than 50mm deep.

Also 6mm tw&e can sometimes have a 2.5mmm cpc.

it is more than 50mm deep it is in the cavity of a plasterboard wall which is where the tails to the main switch comes from as well so no henly block connection for this.
