What's the best way for me to go about finding a solid electrician in my area? Because I contacted these guys through checkatrade and they were one of the top rated companies on there

Goodness knows. Sorry to say it but I wouldn't trust anyone I don't know.
Some one Scheme approved rather than Checkatrade at least (for what that means, these days)

Check-a-trade make their money by charging trades people/companies to advertise. They don't actually check the work done, and rarely remove people who get it wrong. If you answer the questions and have money anyone can join.

Word of mouth is probably your best bet so ask friends and relatives if they can recommend someone
