Gentlemen

Not sure if anyone can help me out, we have several Kenwood radios we use around our works, we have noticed if we use a microwave tester near them when transmitting this sets the tester off into alarm mode, we have been in touch with Kenwood but they are a bit stumped, if anyone has any ideas.

This does sound like an EMC issue.

The Microwave tester ideally shouldn't be used near (any other) equipment, that radiates RF (so your testing of the products can be valid).

I'm sure the Kenwood radios comply with current EMC requirements, but when testing a Microwave surely you don't want ot be near any other equipment radiating radio frequencies, would you agree?

I might add if you go to a EMC testing station, ALL precautionary steps are taken to remove outside influences.

Can I ask what distance we are talking about?

It was noticed by accident when one of our electricians was using the tester and he recieved a call on his radio(as we have to wear them all the time) and when he answered the tester went ballistic, I'd say the radio was about 2 - 3 feet away.

Radio waves...

There is your answer, don't use any equipment (that is likely to radiate Radio waves) within 3 metres.

After all consider what the tester is looking for!

If I receive an incoming call from my mobile near my PC, its starts the speakers buzzing away.
