I drone this out every year but as I'm taking a few rest days because of Electrician's knees  I'll drone it out again .

Especially younger guys ...wear 'em for all kneeling work before its too late ...well worth it , take it from me .

And while I'm droning ,,,,,,,don't touch loft work without a facemask .......you don't want to be breathing that crap in .

Just droning .

3rd the pads, my knees are shot they grind they ache they click swell up now and again.........why? Because as a teen PPE was for softies.......wish id listened to my old man.

Basicaly if you are a noob to sparking DONT scrimp on your PPE.

Got pads but probably time to get some new ones

:)

I have knee pads but save them for skateboarding.

I avoid kneeling and adopt the squat position, or sit on my behind.

I cut quite a dash and turn a few heads with my Scruffs jeans or shorts.

I like the shorts as they are the only ones i have found that you can put kneepads into.....however i sometimes have issues with the pads slipping and i sort of "fall off them". FFS that hurts

Or one pad twists....probably i was born with incompatible legs!

Born in the fifties my legs will,be imperial.....maybe even Whitworth and not the new fangled metric laptop facebook twatter ones

I have been sparking for 30+ years and only started wearing knee pads 6 years ago. Wish I wore them years ago because my knees are now screwed.

Well at age 40, after weeks of Housemaids knee which I battled on with, I got septicaemia in the joint, ended up in hospital for a week, touch and go, but everything got better and that is now my better knee, my other knee has been giving grief for over a year now and I must strap it daily just to walk without too much pain.

If I do kneel on it, then it's 6 weeks of agony after.

Had X-Ray and very little wrong with bones so just waiting for next appointment to see what we can do next.

I rest my case M'lud!!

My knees are that bad, only thick knee pads like these:

Are any use TBH.

As has been said, USE KNEE PADS!!!

In the words of the song...

"look after your knees, you'll miss them when they're gone"!

It also says something about living in Southern California once, but leaving before it makes you soft.

Anyway.

With my H&S background, and experience, TBH, I am now, well I did a year or so ago, become MUCH more concerned with "health" than "safety".

The safety whilst important and can kill you now.

The health bit, is what gets you down the road when you are not expecting it.

With me, hearing, knees, hands and wrists, ankles and a very tired back, all down to not looking after my body when at work, and "just getting the job done".

My eye injury is down to "safety" rather than health, though!

nice one andy, what about on the odd occasion when we have the weather for shorts...?
well, if like i said before, you buy Scruffs shorts then you can put knee ads in them.

i start wearing shorts around march/ april usually up until november ish. i usually team them with whatever esle i can find that fits!

I have yet to find a customer that cares what I look like....it is what I do that they are more bothered about :^O
