Is there a virus on this forum or something;)? ;) ?

no sooner has Sidey sorted his HDD problem, then my laptop screen goes U/S... got about an inch wide swathe down the RHS that is just multi coloured:( :( LCD has been damaged from what I can tell...

Managed to get a replacement from e-bay for

a few issues like that have been known,

that is why for my day to day I use LTS and then I'll mess with other stuff as an aside.

its like running win8beta as your normal system, you'd be mad,

but for some reason no-one cares to tell people that some ubuntu releases are almost beta refined a bit, so issues creep in.

Sidey,

Considering my previous employment I don't see stripping a laptop as being a problem,,, just more of a minor challenge to not break any part of the plastic mouldings, catches etc..

will have to wait for the weekend though as I don't want to start it and then not be able to complete it that same day

Just went the loo (I know,,, too much info;)) and when I came back it was dead.... just spent the last 10mins trying to get it back on:(

I recon it's got a big overheating problem,,, probably full of dust bunnies

All done now....

the cooling heat exchanger was fully blocked with dust, the power connector had a bent part and the screen was replaced without a hitch

the only problem I had was I forgot to align the hardware switches with the buttons on the front so I had to completley strip it down again:( :(

All well now though:) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)
