Probably a bit of a long shot for this forum but.............

Does anyone know about getting into electrical installation lecturing?

I know this at the moment ;

If you have no degree - need a CertED

If you have a degree - need a PGCE (PCET)

Both normally take 2 years part time.

But I read about Huddersfield Uni - who have links with many colleges - and they say something about PGCE (PCET) taking one year part-time if you have C&G7407 already.

I guess it would be a bit cheeky to try and do the both at same time - but can it be done?

The other thing is I read on many jobs nowadays it says you can apply if you ave 7407 or 7303 - but I guess the college would then want you to take the certEd/PGCE once you start - or not?

My aim is to get it all done within one year (Sept-July) if possible.

I have 5 years experience of teaching science in secondary schools many years ago (as unqualified teacher) and my open Uni degree is science.

I was hoping to pick up a little part-time Math or science taching in a college if I can't get electrical installation to enable me to start a teaching course.

Any advice appreciated or let me know of a forum where lecturers chat so I can get an answer. Cheers.

Hi

Do you have experience in the electrical industry?

If not how appropriate do you think it is teaching a subject you have yet to learn yourself?

Its all bull****, they struggle to find lecturers because they dont want to pay anywhere near tools rate. Our lecturer doesnt have a certed, granted he is a JIB Technician graded electrician but his class grades are better than the ones whose lecturers have all these teaching qualifications.

Sometimes i wonder if some of these full time lecturers could go out and work on the tools.

What colleges want and what they can actually get are two different things if you already have teaching experience they may still give you a shot and them put you through certed. In most cases they will however expect you to hold similar qualifications to a JIB Graded Electrician/Approved Electrician.

My Cv is posted on a couple of job websites and have had loads off emails regarding these jobs.

I went for an interview for one and was told that it was 20 hours a week paying
