Led Downlights Too Bright

your old lights were probably rather knackered and dim, on top of that you now have rather bright LED, they will dim over time but the change can be quite disconcerting. Live with them ofr a week or 2, if you still dislike them you proably need something dimmer.

 
SMD are awful, the light spread is too wide at virtually 180degree, good if you need that but it disipates the light too much and ruins the effect of downlighters. As replacement for say 2D florrie they work fine.

 
Just flicking through professional electrician and I am looking at an advert for Ansell which shows directional lenses for these lights. They might do a lens with a wider angle which could make it not appear so bright.

You could even try a bit of sand paper on a replaceable lens to see if it takes the glare away.
